前を向いて話しましょう。当たり前です。他のどこを見るのですか？とおっしゃる方があるかもしれません。ところがスピーチに慣れていない人は、天井、床、壁などを見て話す人がいます。私は、天井にも床にも壁にも原稿は書いてありませんよ、と申し上げます。原因の多くは、暗記したり記憶したことを、頭の中から引っぱりだそうとすることにあります。でも、それでは、相手の心に伝わりませんよね。その上、覚えたことが、うまく出てこないと、混乱して上がってしまいます。とにかく前を見て、聞き手に語りかけましょう。

Let’s talk forward. It is obvious. Where else do you look? Some may say. However, some people who are new to speech look at the ceiling, the floor or the wall. I tell them that there is no manuscript on the ceiling, floor or walls. A lot of the reason for this is that they try to pull what they have memorised or remembered out of their head. But that doesn’t get through to the other person’s mind. Besides, if what you have memorised doesn’t come out right, you will get confused and go up. Anyway, look ahead and speak to your listeners.
