話す前に身の回りの準備も必要です。原稿やメモを持ちましたか？見て話さなくても、直前に目を通したり、お守りがわりに持ちます。シャープペンはありますか。良いフレーズが浮かん時、直前にメモができます。他にも思いつくことは何でもしましょう。昔、大きな会場で司会をしたときです。突然、想定外に会場の灯りが消えて、真っ暗。進行台本が読めないことがありました。以来、ペンライトを持参しました。今はスマホのライトで代用できますね。スマホといえば、携帯の音は、切るか、マナーモードですね。トイレを済ませることも大事。色々ありすね。深呼吸も大事です。

You need to prepare yourself before you speak. Have you got a manuscript or notes? Even if you don’t look at it and speak, you can look through it just before or carry it as a talisman. Do you have a Sharpie? If a good phrase comes to mind, you can make a last-minute note of it. Do anything else you can think of. I used to host at a large venue. Suddenly, unexpectedly, the venue lights went out and it was pitch black. Sometimes I couldn’t read the proceedings script. Since then, I brought a penlight. Nowadays, I can use the light on my smartphone as a substitute. Speaking of smartphones, I turn off or put my mobile phone on silent mode. It’s also important to use the toilet. There are many things to do. Deep breathing is also important.
